SAFE WATER

Anxious for Safe Water

    Our Water Project in Numbers

    26,000,000 TANZANIANS

26 million Tanzanians don't have safe water - that's almost half the population.

    60 SECONDS

Every 60 seconds, a child dies from a preventable waterborne disease. Thousands die every month.

    50% OF INCOME

Families can spend up to 50% of their income treating waterborne illnesses, if they can afford it. Since most cannot afford medical care, these illnesses go untreated. Some suffer long-term effects, while others many die.

    3 HOURS

In remote regions, women and children spend about three hours a day walking to and from unsafe water sources for their daily water needs. This daily routine leaves families less time for work, school and rest caring for their families.

    40 POUNDS

A jerry can (used for transporting water), containing enough water for one person for a day, weighs about 40 pounds. Over time, the weight of the can and the distance traveled injures the body.

    85% OF ILLNESSES

A well can provide a reduction of up to 85% of all waterborne illnesses, safety for women and children, more time to care for families and allow children more time to attend school.

    8 YEARS

Mission IsPossible has been working on safe water projects in Tanzania for eight years. And we’ve only just begun.

    TEAMS

Two full-time teams of highly-skilled drilling and repair experts are employed year-round.

    2 TEAMS & 6 LOCAL PROS

Every water project team is manned by six highly skilled local professionals who carry out their safe water project tasks with MIP-purchased equipment and vehicles.

    72 NEW WELLS

So far, Mission IsPossible has developed 70 wells from scratch.

    90 REPAIRED WELLS

And, MIP has repaired 85 defunct existing, non-functioning wells that were abandoned and in disrepair.

    $7,500 EACH

A brand-new MIP well costs an average of $7,500.

    1,500 PEOPLE

Each well serves an average of 1,500 people.

    240,000+ PEOPLE

Because of Mission IsPossible’s water project and WaSH program, more than 230,000 people now have daily access to safe water and improved sanitation and hygiene.

    100% OF YOUR DONATION

None of this could be possible without your support. Thank you. 100% of your tax- deductible donation directly benefits these communities.

The Risk for Women and Girls

Women and girls are especially vulnerable when they’re collecting water. Many sources of water are located in isolated areas far away from homes down long dirt paths. Women and girls often walk alone and frequently begin or end their journey in the dark.

Women and girls collecting water are vulnerable to assaults, injuries and human trafficking. Unprotected and defenseless, most female victims choose not to report crimes or identify their assailants because of social shame and fear of retaliation.

Violence in the midst of emotional and physical isolation is the second most dangerous side effect – dying due to waterborne illness being the first – of a lack of safe water nearby. But we can help these women and girls. Together, our mission is possible.

    Our Safe Water Strategy

Mission IsPossible is currently focused on raising funds in the US so we can make it easier possible to access safe water. Here’s what we do with how we use your donations:

    • We maintain a hired team of six local drillers and installers that works year- round throughout northwestern Tanzania.

    • We own our drilling equipment and vehicles, which keeps our costs low and allows us to drill continuously.

    • We are now installing install high-quality American-made electric pumps and the highest-quality foreign hand pumps. and We are committed to sourcing the best supplies from vendors we know and trust.

    • We will continue to purchase equipment and vehicles, and educate, train and hire more local staff so we can build up teams to drill and maintain more deep water wells.

    • 100% of our US-based fundraising and marketing efforts are organized and maintained by volunteers who don’t get paid a dime*. We do this because we love humanity.

    • We send a small delegation of self-funded American volunteers to visit our in- country field operations team three times a year to replenish supplies, check in on active projects and make friends.

    • We send our US project manager three times a year to replenish supplies, check in on active projects and make catch up with old friends.

    • Our WaSH manager travels once a year to teach new communities that receive a well and check in on communities that have previously received sanitation and hygiene training.

    • We also send a small delegation of self-funded American volunteers every year to visit our in-country field operations team and to tour villages where wells have been developed.

    • We share our photographs, stories and progress online and at events in Southern California.

*Thanks to the generosity of our Angel Donors our US-based project manager’s salary is funded in full.

    How You Can Help

The water crisis in Tanzania is preventable, but we can only continue to secure safe water with the help of our donors.

Let’s work together until everyone has safe water to drink. Please help us drill another well. Please help us save lives.
